5 Tips to Rid the Sugar Craving
What is it about just the thought of a piece of chocolate, caramel, pastry or any other tasty treat that makes you want to salivate and throw all healthy caution out the window? Well…I really hate to say it, but sugar, the “food” that the world craves and dreams about has no nutritional value, and is in fact, a drug. Yes, I said it! Sugar is a drug. I know that’s not what you probably want to hear, but it’s a dangerous reality that is plaguing humans throughout the world; leading us to health threats such as diabetes, obesity, sleep disorders, fatigue and more. So how can we make the change in our eating habits to decrease our sugar intake and put on us a train to sugar recovery?
Try the following tips to help you gradually decrease your sugar intake..
1. Say goodbye to candy sweets. Yes, remove those little pieces of hard candy, chocolate from you purse, work desk and other secret hiding places.
2. Discontinue eating packaged and overly processed foods. Have you ever really looked at the labeling on even the most seemingly innocent package food? Take for example a can of Dole diced peaches. A small can of peaches in “light” syrup contains 18 grams of sugar. That’s equal to just about 6 teaspoons !
3. Remove soda from your diet. Soda/soft drinks are notorious for being laden with sugar. Even if it says low-sugar or sugar free; it is best for you to stay clear of these types of drinks.
4. Substitute your sugar craving treat with a tasty fruit. Fruits are naturally sweet and contains many vitamins and antioxidants to maintain your health.
5. Read the label. This is probably the most important tactic to keeping the sugar intake to a minimum. Read the labels on all your pre-packaged foods. If the first 3 ingredients include sugar; put it back on the shelf!
