I recently had a dream that sent chills down my spine. I dreamt I was looking into a mirror and what was staring back at me was a face I did not recognize. It wasn’t that I was wearing the face of someone I did not know; rather it was a face that was full of sores, boils and tautness, that I could not see the real me beneath the physical abnormalities. I awoke from this dream wondering what it all meant, until the answer came to me as an epiphany later in the day as I prepared my family’s Sunday dinner.

Do you find yourself moving through life? You are probably thinking, “Of course I move through life, otherwise I would be dead!”. Well what I mean by “moving through” life is in a way in which you move unconsciously, on autopilot. This is what came out of my moment of clarity this Sunday evening. For all the time I spend with my family, friends and being involved in my work; there comes a point when the world just starts to ‘exist’. It’s as if everything is set in a certain way and my ideas, hopes and dreams are no longer relevant - distant desires that serve little importance in waking life. But how could this have happened? How could I have taken everything I hold so dear to me for granted? I mean, I’m a wellness professional, this is not suppose to happen! Well, unfortunately this happens to women every day; with no regards to occupation, lifestyle and family background.

So, what are some ways for us women to remind ourselves of our power and the importance of making every moment in our lives count? Here are 3 tips to keep us in-tune with ourselves and limit those moments of autopilot:

1. Take a moment everyday to visualize an important goal or desire. Feel how the reaching of this goal makes you feel and hold on to that feeling throughout the day.

2. Give Gratitude: In the hustle in bustle of life we often don’t take the time to recognize all our blessings. Whether it’s the neighbor who grabs your newspaper from your bushes and sets it on your porch in the morning, to the coworker who offers to buy you your early morning coffee - Take time to see, acknowledge and be grateful for these moments when they arise.

3. Send Love to your body (no matter what “stage” it’s in): Our bodies are our temples. And whether you are in a “feeling not so great” stage, or “I absolutely love my body” stage; send it some love. If we didn’t have our bodies, we wouldn’t have much to be thankful for…

I hope these tips give you some support if you ever have a dream such as mine. Our subconscious mind can bring out so much that we are overlooking in our daily lives. So whenever you find your self on autopilot, take pause and you can turn it all around in just 1-2-3.

Be Well,
